Professional Background

Rick Beran, a director with Gleason & Associates, who's 38-year career has spanned numerous industries and assignments. As the director for both the H.K. Porter Asbestos Trust and the C.E. Thurston and Sons Asbestos Trust, Rick is responsible for the overall management of their claims processing, investment management and general administration. Additionally, his background in engineering and experience with manufacturing and construction companies during a time when many Pittsburgh companies suffered financial difficulties and extensive consulting experience makes him well-suited for clients with engagements involving bankruptcy, financial reorganizations and construction damages.

Rick has substantial case experience in general commercial disputes, assisting in the development of damage theories, discovery and documentation of claims. His analyses have been used successfully by counsel and clients in various forms including the courtroom, mediation and negotiations.

Before joining Gleason & Associates in 1990, Rick was an independent financial and computer consultant. Prior to that, he was manager of corporate finance for Allegheny International, where his focus was on long-term debt management and international finance, including foreign exchange. Before joining Allegheny International, Rick worked for Dravo Corporation, where he helped to coordinate and oversee long-range strategic planning for all of the company's groups, which represented approximately $1 billion in annual sales.

In addition, Rick has worked as a mechanical engineer for Westinghouse Electric's Research and Development Center. He also served as a Civil Engineer Corps officer with the U.S. Navy Seabees, where he held various staff positions and also managed a construction project in Germany.
